Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Biomedical Technician II to join our Clinical Engineering team at NYU Langone Hospital-Long Island. As a Biomedical Technician II, you will be responsible for installing, inspecting, calibrating, and performing preventive maintenance on all electrical, electronic, and pneumatic patient care, diagnostic, monitoring, and therapeutic instrumentation throughout the Medical Center.

Key Responsibilities
  • Install, inspect, calibrate, and perform preventive maintenance on medical equipment, including patient monitors, defibrillators, and telemetry systems.
  • Troubleshoot and repair medical equipment, including devices serviced by BMETs, Telemetry Systems, Multi-parameter Monitors, Electrosurgical Units, and Defibrillators.
  • Provide guidance and training to users on equipment function and operation.
  • Verify proper operation of all device functions prior to returning the device to service.
  • Record all work done in the medical equipment database.
  • Inform and consult with the Operations Manager/Director on unusual problems or specific hazards.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and calibration on medical equipment at intervals prescribed by manufacturers and departmental policies.
  • Locate equipment that is due for PM, functional testing, and calibration, and perform these tasks as needed.
  • Determine whether equipment is covered by warranty or service contract when repairs are needed.
  • Notify the Operations Manager of equipment under warranty or contract.
  • Install medical equipment in coordination with the user and Facilities Management departments.
  • Provide guidance related to expertise in the installation of new patient systems.
  • Perform incoming inspection on all patient care equipment, including electrical safety checks and/or full acceptance and performance checks.
  • Perform electrical and functional safety checks on all incoming patient care equipment before it is used.
  • Perform functional tests and checks the calibrations on new patient monitors, defibrillators, Telemetry Systems, ESU, etc., on a regular basis.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Biomedical, Electrical, or Electronics Engineering/Technology.
  • A minimum of 4 years of medical equipment repair experience is required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • CBET Certification is preferred.
  • Networking Degree or Certification is preferred.
  • Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.
