Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Electric Power Plant Operator to join our team at the City of Alexandria, LA. As a key member of our Utilities Department, you will be responsible for the daily operation of our steam-driven electric power plant, ensuring efficient and safe generation of electricity.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor and control the operation of the power plant, including the water level in the tower and the performance of various motors, pumps, compressors, fans, condensers, heaters, and gas fueled reciprocating engine driven generation.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks, including lubrication, servicing, and repair of equipment, as well as assist the maintenance crew in the inspection, overhaul, and repair of turbine generators and auxiliary equipment.
  • Operate and maintain high-pressure steam turbines, electric generators, cranes, power tools, high-voltage switchgear, pumps, motors, compressors, gas fueled reciprocating engine driven generation, and hand tools.
  • Evaluate and maintain water quality by taking water samples, performing routine analysis, and administering proper chemical treatment as needed.
  • Provide customer service functions, including receiving and addressing complaints, questions, and service requests, dispatching personnel, and logging telephone calls and radio transmissions.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Experience in the operation of a steam-driven and/or reciprocating internal combustion engine driven electric utility power plant
  • Valid driver's license
  • Ability to obtain a valid State of Louisiana driver's license at time of appointment and maintain throughout employment
