POSITION SUMMARY

This role is a skilled position responsible for performing routine preventative maintenance and essential repairs on a variety of vehicles, including cars, trucks (both light and heavy), vans, and specialized equipment. The technician will disassemble and rebuild engines, transmissions, and other mechanical systems while working independently. Personal tools are required for this position, and during winter months, snow plowing duties may be included.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES (include but are not limited to)

  • Conduct preventative maintenance on vehicles and maintain accurate service records.
  • Inspect vehicles to determine the extent of damage or malfunction, discussing findings with the Lead Mechanic or Manager.
  • Plan and execute work procedures efficiently.
  • Utilize hydraulic jacks or hoists to access mechanical components beneath vehicles.
  • Remove and inspect units such as engines and transmissions for wear and damage.
  • Overhaul or replace essential components like carburetors and starters.
  • Rewire electrical systems, test repaired vehicles, and analyze performance.
  • Adjust or repair brake and suspension systems as necessary.
  • Perform minor bodywork and replace or adjust vehicle accessories.
  • Operate vehicles equipped with snow plows when required.
  • Be available for after-hours emergency repairs and occasional weekend work.
  • Follow all safety protocols as directed by supervisors.
  • Complete additional tasks as assigned, which may relate to the original position or not.

SUPERVISORY ROLE

This position does not involve supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS

To excel in this role, candidates must demonstrate the ability to perform essential duties satisfactorily. The following qualifications are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required:

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

Completion of a technical college program or five years of relevant experience; or a combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY

Ability to read and write at a professional level, including correspondence and technical manuals. Capable of effectively communicating information in individual and group settings.

MATH SKILLS

Proficient in basic arithmetic, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, using both imperial and metric measurement systems.

PROBLEM-SOLVING ABILITY

Ability to address practical problems and navigate various concrete variables in situations with limited standardization.

TECHNICAL SKILLS

Familiarity with diagnostic tools for electrical systems.

CERTIFICATIONS

A valid driver's license is required, along with the ability to meet the automobile insurance requirements of Jay Peak Resort.

ADDITIONAL SKILLS

Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate with team members across departments. Proficient in diagnosing mechanical issues in various vehicles and engines. Knowledge of current manufacturing standards and technology.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Mechanical expertise in gas and diesel repair, with experience in hydraulic and air brake systems. Understanding of internal combustion engines is essential.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This role requires regular physical activity, including standing, walking, and lifting heavy objects (up to 100 pounds). Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.
