This position requires a dedicated professional with expertise in interventional radiology procedures. As a Medical Imaging Specialist, you will work closely with interventional radiologists and other healthcare professionals to deliver high-quality patient care.

About the Role
  1. Pre-Procedure Preparation:
  • Prepare the interventional radiology suite by ensuring all necessary equipment and supplies are available and functioning.
  • Review patient information, medical history, and previous imaging studies to ensure accurate procedure planning.
  • Verify patient identity, allergies, and consent forms before the procedure begins.
  • Explain the procedure to the patient, address any concerns, and provide reassurance to reduce anxiety.
Assisting During Procedures:
  • Assist the interventional radiologist in performing minimally invasive procedures, including angiograms, biopsies, catheter placements, stent insertions, and drain placements.
  • Operate imaging equipment (e.g., fluoroscopy, CT scan, or ultrasound) to guide the physician during procedures.
  • Maintain a sterile environment by assisting with draping, setting up instruments, and handling devices as required.
  • Administer contrast agents or dyes as directed by the physician to enhance visibility.
  • Monitor patient vital signs, including heart rate, blood pressure, and oxygen levels, during the procedure and report any changes.
Patient Safety and Comfort:
  • Ensure patient comfort and safety throughout the procedure, positioning them appropriately for optimal images.
  • Take precautions to minimize radiation exposure using shielding and optimizing imaging settings.
  • Monitor patients for signs of complications, such as bleeding, infection, or adverse reactions, and report findings to the physician.
Post-Procedure Care:
  • Monitor patients post-procedure for immediate complications and assist in their transfer to recovery or another unit.
  • Provide post-procedure care instructions, including activity restrictions and wound care guidance.
  • Remove catheter lines, drains, or devices after the procedure, ensuring proper cleaning and dressing.
Equipment Maintenance and Troubleshooting:
  • Maintain and inspect IR equipment, ensuring it functions correctly and accurately document any issues.
  • Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions during procedures to minimize disruption to patient care.
Collaboration with Medical Team:
  • Work closely with interventional radiologists, nurses, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure successful procedures and high-quality patient care.
  • Provide feedback and support to the medical team on imaging quality, patient positioning, and procedural outcomes.
Documentation and Record-Keeping:
  • Accurately document patient information, procedures performed, imaging parameters, and medications administered in the electronic health record.
  • Ensure records comply with hospital policies and regulatory standards.
Radiation Safety and Compliance:
  • Follow strict radiation safety protocols to minimize exposure for patients and staff.
  • Adhere to healthcare regulations, including HIPAA, infection control measures, and hospital accreditation guidelines.
Professional Development and Training:
  • Participate in continuing education and training to remain current with the latest technologies and best practices in interventional radiology.
  • Maintain certifications in radiologic technology and interventional radiology and attend relevant workshops and conferences.
Compensation

The estimated salary for this role is $$146,940 per year, based on 40 hours per week and 52 weeks per year.
