Pediatric Pharmacist Job Description

UNC Health is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Pediatric Pharmacist to join our team at the University of North Carolina Hospital Department of Pharmacy. As a Pediatric Clinical Specialist, you will play a critical role in providing comprehensive pharmaceutical care to our pediatric patient population.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure timely medication access for service patients, including order review and verification.
  • Utilize and analyze patient data to provide optimal drug therapy recommendations.
  • Perform protocol-driven clinical services, such as therapeutic dose monitoring and antimicrobial stewardship activities.
  • Compound and oversee the preparation and dispensing of medications, including sterile products.
  • Maintain patient profiles within the electronic medical record to facilitate communication.
  • Comply with the medication formulary and therapeutic substitution programs.
  • Facilitate discharge and transfer of patients, including medication reconciliation and discharge counseling.
  • Practice medication safety, including adverse drug event and medication error reporting.
  • Participate in Code Blue situations for pediatric patients.
  • Precept students, residents, and participate in training new pharmacy staff.
Requirements:
  • PharmD or BS Pharmacy Degree.
  • Active pharmacist licensure with the NC Board of Pharmacy or obtainable before initiation of employment.
  • Completion of a PGY1 or PGY2 residency in pediatrics or an equivalent level of pharmacy experience.
  • Excellent initiative, communication, analytical skills, organization, and collaboration.
