Overview:


The Team Leader will assume a pivotal role within the Ports and Harbors team, overseeing projects and providing technical expertise to project managers engaged in engineering and design services for waterfront and heavy industrial projects, including those that may extend beyond state lines.

This position requires a commitment to delivering high-quality customer service and ensuring that projects are completed on time and within budget.

Responsibilities:
Leadership and Direction


Work under the guidance of senior management to align with key objectives, address critical issues, and navigate new concepts and policies.

Manage personnel and processes to guarantee effective execution. Review outputs from staff to ensure quality assurance.

At the Operational and Company Level

Contribute to the development of processes and provide insights to achieve operational excellence while expanding the region and office.

Represent the firm at professional events, delivering presentations to enhance our visibility and reputation.

Oversee the market sector, including strategy formulation, budgeting, staffing, and deliverables.

Promote the firm's capabilities to attract new clients and strengthen existing relationships.

Execution of Work

Ensure the quality and timely delivery of Ports and Harbors outputs to clients.

Engage with clients, preparing new contract proposals, change orders, and participating in project meetings.


Lead and manage multi-disciplinary project teams from inception to completion, while seeking future business opportunities and fulfilling project responsibilities.


Mentor junior staff, coordinate with project managers, and oversee goal setting and performance management for the engineering team. Review project modifications, potential contract changes, additional work requests, and other factors that may impact staffing or budget.


Provide technical support in resolving design challenges, including field investigations, detailed design work, and thorough reviews of design computations conducted by others.

Maintain and manage contractual agreements and conduct quality assurance on all proposals prior to submission.

Participate in relevant professional society events to network with partners and clients.

Coordinate and lead internal debriefing meetings.

Understand client challenges and strategize on how the company can deliver value and services. Organize and track opportunities for pursuit in the region.

Ensure financial sustainability and meet annual profit and growth targets.

Apply expert-level technical knowledge and experience to complete assignments. Review work produced by staff for quality assurance.

Develop and maintain lists of project pursuits with public agencies and private sectors.


Organize and track opportunities for pursuit, assigning proposal and project managers for optimal success well in advance of public advertisement.

Qualifications:
A Bachelor's degree in structural engineering, civil engineering, or a related field.

A Master's degree is preferred.


Ten or more years of relevant experience in structural engineering, including a minimum of five years managing complex large-scale projects.

A Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred.

Knowledge of the maritime industry is essential.


Familiarity with ASCE, AISC, ACI, AWS, and other relevant marine, port, and coastal construction and structural design codes, standards, regulations, and compliance practices is required.


Strong proficiency in computer applications such as STAAD Pro, Revit, AutoCAD, as well as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook).


A valid state driver's license and the ability to successfully complete a motor vehicle records check or reliable transportation to/from the office and/or project site is preferred.

Successful completion of background checks, safety training, non-DOT pre-employment, and random post-employment drug screening is required.

A thorough understanding of municipal codes and regulations is necessary.

Physical Demands and Working Environment:
Primarily an indoor professional office environment, which may include bright/dim light, noise, fumes, odors, and traffic.

Mobility around an office environment is necessary.

Frequent and prolonged use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines is expected.


Frequent local travel to and/or work in an outdoor environment may include being on watercraft, adverse weather conditions, varying temperatures, excessive noise, and/or potential hazards.


Mobility around a job/construction site includes walking, bending, crawling, climbing, squatting, or kneeling, and wearing required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).


Primarily local travel during business hours, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be required based on business needs.

Occasional lifting or carrying of up to 20 pounds is expected.

Occasional pushing or pulling of up to 20 pounds is required.

Occasional reaching outward or above shoulder is necessary.
