Job Overview:


The MRI Technologist is responsible for conducting magnetic resonance imaging procedures within their professional scope. This includes preparing patients and equipment for imaging, as well as ensuring the MRI department is adequately stocked with necessary supplies.

The technologist is tasked with producing high-quality scans by adhering to established protocols set by the radiology department.

They operate MRI machinery safely and competently, guided by their education, training, and professional credentials. The role also involves mentoring students from accredited educational programs.

Key Responsibilities:


Routine responsibilities encompass delivering healthcare services to eligible individuals in accordance with established agreements and policies.

The technologist practices within their competency limits, informed by their education and experience. They select appropriate scanning parameters to ensure the safety of both pediatric and adult patients, delivering services that align with Cherokee Nation standards. Effective communication with the patient care team is essential for addressing inquiries.

Demonstrating a solid understanding of human anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology is crucial for performing MR examinations across various age groups. These examinations include MR and MRA of diverse body parts, and the technologist assists radiologists in conducting MRI biopsies.

Proficiency in operating complex MRI equipment and automated contrast injectors is required to perform requested imaging and angiography examinations. The technologist also conducts quality control checks on MRI equipment and maintains an adequate supply of disposables used in the department.

It is vital to ensure all duties are completed accurately, demonstrating anatomy and pathology effectively while correcting any errors. The technologist must maintain a comprehensive understanding of all MRI equipment, protocols, and procedures, ensuring accurate data entry into the computer systems and completeness of patient documentation.

Flexibility in meeting patient care demands is necessary, including the ability to adjust work hours as needed. Responsible communication practices are essential, and the technologist must interpret patient requisitions accurately.

Ensuring compliance with quality assurance standards is critical, including maintaining patient screening forms and documentation of administered supplies and medications. The technologist guarantees a safe imaging environment, adhering to safety protocols and identifying patients using approved identifiers.

Providing attentive patient care during procedures is essential, including addressing concerns and administering necessary life support measures. The technologist screens patients for potential contraindications to contrast materials and administers these materials following aseptic techniques as directed by the radiologist.

Professionalism and courteous customer service are expected at all times, with a focus on age-specific criteria in performing job duties. The technologist initiates tasks based on demonstrated competence and recognizes examination findings that may require immediate clinical attention.

Ongoing professional development is encouraged, with participation in departmental meetings and quality improvement activities. The technologist manages patient flow effectively, minimizing delays and coordinating resources to enhance department productivity.

Maintaining a high level of customer service and professionalism is crucial, fostering positive interrelationships with colleagues and patients alike. The technologist is responsible for ensuring adequate inventory and supplies for procedures and retrieving necessary images from the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS).

Confidentiality of patient information is paramount, and compliance with all applicable regulations regarding health records is required.

Qualifications:

Educational Background:


Associate's degree from an accredited institution or equivalent experience is required.


Experience:

Entry-Level MRI Technologist:
One additional year of MRI experience is preferred.

Advanced MRI Technologist:
Two additional years of MRI experience is preferred.

Technical Skills:


Proficiency in various software applications, including database and order processing systems, is necessary.

Certifications:

Current certification in Radiography and MRI from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) is required.

Must maintain BLS certification during employment.


Physical Requirements:


The role requires regular standing, walking, and the ability to lift up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities are necessary for performing job duties.


Work Environment:


Exposure to mechanical parts and radiation is common, with occasional exposure to various environmental conditions.
