Job Overview: The Cashier plays a vital role in customer interactions, delivering efficient checkout services, bagging and transporting groceries, locating products, and verifying prices. This position requires maintaining proficiency in transaction processes and ensuring accuracy in cash handling. The Cashier will also perform various customer service tasks while upholding a safe and sanitary shopping environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure accurate checkout totals by properly weighing, entering, and scanning items.
  • Maintain an accurate cash count in the register at all times.
  • Familiarize oneself with product codes and stay updated on promotional items.
  • Adhere to tender policies and procedures related to various payment methods.
  • Exhibit a friendly and customer-focused demeanor by greeting customers, addressing inquiries, promoting products, and resolving complaints.
  • Encourage customer enrollment in the Thank You Card program and assist with the sign-up process as needed.
  • Properly bag groceries by grouping similar items, limiting bag weight, preventing cross-contamination, and ensuring customers receive all purchased items.
  • Handle products with care to avoid damage.
  • Keep front-end racks, drink coolers, and cleaning supply stations stocked and tidy.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary working and shopping environment by following company safety protocols.
  • Comply with all local, state, and federal regulations regarding the sale of restricted items.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Basic understanding of cash register operations.
  • Knowledge of tender policies and procedures.
  • Basic mathematical and counting abilities.
  • Willingness to learn new technologies and processes.
  • Ability to maintain a courteous demeanor with customers at all times.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Capability to multitask and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • High level of accuracy in all tasks.
  • Flexibility to work varied schedules, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Education and Experience:

  • On-the-job training is typically provided.
  • Minimum age requirement is 16 years.
  • TABC/LACT certification may be required where applicable.

Physical Requirements:

  • Continuous use of close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and focus.
  • Regularly required to communicate verbally and audibly.
  • Frequent use of hands for reaching, touching, or handling items.
  • Consistent fine finger movements for tasks such as sorting and typing.
  • Regularly required to stand or walk for extended periods.
