Reports to: VP of Finance

Position Overview:

The Financial Controller plays a pivotal role in overseeing the daily operations of the general ledger within a manufacturing context. This position is tasked with leading the Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable teams, along with a Senior Accountant, to ensure accurate reconciliation of balance sheet accounts and bank statements. The Controller will also be responsible for maintaining the general ledger and executing month-end closing processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems to ensure adherence to relevant accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Perform daily accounting tasks, including but not limited to:
    • Generating comprehensive month-end, quarter-end, and year-end financial reports.
    • Timely reconciliation of all balance sheet accounts and intercompany balances.
    • Facilitating vendor and customer setups, including W-9s and address modifications, as well as ensuring compliance with tax reporting requirements.
    • Preparing necessary tax filings, including Sales/Use tax and property tax.
    • Conducting monthly variance analysis between actuals and budget.
    • Engaging in the financial standards setting, forecasting, and budgeting processes.
    • Assisting in the preparation of PBC documents for audits.
    • Tracking fixed assets, managing depreciation and amortization schedules, and recording relevant entries.
    • Verifying and recording payroll entries.
    • Supporting cost analysis and inventory management efforts.
  • Establish internal control mechanisms across departments to safeguard company assets.
  • Develop policies and procedures for budget administration, cash management, and accounting activities.
  • Coordinate financial planning, budgeting, procurement, and investment activities within the organization.
  • Stay informed on organizational policies, federal and state regulations, and current accounting standards.
  • Guide staff in the preparation of financial statements, business activity reports, forecasts, annual budgets, and regulatory reports.
  • Provide direction to other departments regarding accounting and budgeting policies, ensuring efficient control and utilization of financial resources.
  • Analyze financial data to identify opportunities for development and areas requiring improvement.
  • Advise management on financial objectives, policies, and strategic actions.
  • Monitor financial activities, including cash flow and reserve levels.
  • Evaluate the performance of accounting and financial staff, recommending personnel actions as necessary.
  • Authorize requests for disbursements in accordance with company policies.
  • Delegate authority for the management of funds, securities, and financial instruments.
  • Conduct audits of company accounts and financial transactions to ensure compliance with regulations.

Team Leadership:

• Leverage the strengths of the finance team, clarify roles and responsibilities, and implement training programs to achieve optimal organizational goals.

• Foster internal communication across all levels of the organization, promoting a positive and supportive work environment.

Competencies:

The ideal candidate will be a self-starter, capable of working independently with minimal supervision. Key competencies include:

Supervisory Responsibility:

This role involves supervising accounting personnel.

Work Environment:

While performing job duties, the employee may be exposed to various scents and allergens typical in a food manufacturing environment.

Physical Demands:

This position does not entail physical demands beyond those typical of an office environment.

Position Type:

This is a full-time role, with hours aligned to standard office operations.

Travel:

No travel is required for this position.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree; CPA and/or MBA preferred.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment with a focus on cost accounting is preferred.
  • 7-10 years of experience in accounting and finance.
  • Proven ability to gather, evaluate, present, and report financial information to executive teams and stakeholders.
  • Integrity, credibility, and a commitment to the mission of NPIC; a proactive, strategic thinker.
  • Experience in coordinating audit activities and managing financial reporting, budget development, accounts payable and receivable, and payroll.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with experience presenting to senior management and external partners.
  • Ability to convey complex financial concepts to individuals at all levels.
  • Experience in a publicly traded corporation with knowledge of accounting requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in 10-key by touch.
  • Familiarity with computer processing.

Additional Qualifications:

Bi-lingual (Mandarin) is preferred but not required. Experience with Sage accounting systems is a plus.

Work Authorization:

Must be authorized to work in the US.
