SSTAR is recognized as a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), allowing our team members to qualify for various Loan Repayment Programs.

The Substance Abuse Specialist within the Acute Treatment Services Unit is responsible for delivering counseling and case management services related to substance use, including evaluation, treatment planning, and aftercare strategies, in alignment with established performance benchmarks. This role is crucial in fostering a collaborative environment that supports the effective treatment of clients.

Compensation: Starting at $20.00/hour, with additional pay for shifts and weekends.

Work Schedule: 12:00pm to 8:00pm, including rotating weekends. This is a full-time position requiring 40 hours per week.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide counseling services to assigned clients; offer crisis intervention and management as needed.
  • Facilitate educational groups covering life skills, substance use education, and relapse prevention according to the program schedule.
  • Effectively communicate the program's philosophy, objectives, and procedures to clients.
  • Conduct screenings, intake assessments, and evaluations of potential clients for suitable placement, providing referrals for alternative programs when necessary.
  • Engage in the planning, development, and scheduling of program activities.
  • Conduct ongoing assessments, develop and implement treatment plans, and provide continuous referrals as required. Ensure effective communication with the next shift counselor or charge personnel regarding any significant observations.
  • Participate in regular supervision, staff training sessions, and team meetings.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Certification as a CAC, CADC, LADC 2, or the ability to obtain CAC certification.
  • Bachelor's degree in social services or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience in addiction counseling is essential.
  • Bilingual candidates are preferred.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively interact with clients, healthcare providers, and team members.
