Firefighter EMT Basic

This position responds to fire and other emergency incidents to suppress fires, rescue victims, provide emergency medical care, and perform other duties as required.

• Respond to fire calls and use firefighting skills to evaluate and carry out actions to most efficiently control the emergency at hand.
• Operate a variety of pumps, ladders, hoses, and other equipment at the scene of fire, rescue, and other emergency incidents.
• Provide emergency medical care at emergency and non-emergency scenes at the EMT-Basic level.
• Complete required reports detailing fire, emergency medical, and other incident responses.
• Complete required training and maintain required certifications.
• Inspect equipment to ensure that it is in proper working order and perform routine maintenance.
• Conduct station and apparatus tours for school and other community groups.
• Participate in public education events.

• Possession of state EMS certification at the EMT-Basic level.
• Ability to meet current requirements set forth by the National Fire Protection Association and the Georgia Firefighter Standards and Training Act.
• Possession of a valid driver's license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.

The work is typically performed in an office, except while at fire or other emergency scenes. The employee may be exposed to machinery with moving parts, irritating chemicals, extreme temperatures, hazardous situations, and inclement weather.
