We are seeking an experienced Environmental Chemist II to join our team at Evonik Industries. As a key member of our research and development team, you will be responsible for conducting analytical tests and providing technical assistance to support our business operations.
Key Responsibilities- Maintain and operate analytical instruments in our laboratory, including GC, GC/MS, Purge/Trap, Auto-titration, UV-Vis spectrometer, TOC, DCS, and microwatt calorimeter.
- Support the Soil and Groundwater business by performing analyses on soil and groundwater samples to determine the amount of Peroxychem oxidants needed to clean up organic contaminants.
- Follow detailed work plans for commercial and R&D soil and groundwater treatability studies, including sampling procedures and accurate chemical solution preparation.
- Perform precise weighing and measurements of solids and liquids, as well as mathematical calculations, including percentages, mass, and molar concentrations.
- Bachelor's degree with 5 years of experience in chemistry, environmental chemistry, or a similar field; a graduate degree is preferred.
- Ability to prepare samples with dilutions, extract, and set up on the Gas Chromatographs for analysis.
- Strong communication and writing skills to draft interim and final reports for clients summarizing procedures and laboratory results.
- Ability to work with clients and colleagues to develop work plans for various treatability studies and suggest procedural improvements.
