Position Overview
Academic Life Coach – Grant
In this role, Academic Life Coaches play a vital part in supporting undergraduate students as they transition into university life. They provide tailored, comprehensive assistance that encompasses academic advising, support services, and essential life skills development, including career, health, and financial literacy.
Coaches will evaluate students' needs, aspirations, and previous experiences to facilitate informed decision-making that fosters academic success. This position is responsible for closely monitoring a specific group of students identified with potential challenges, such as conditional admissions or academic probation.
Required Qualifications
A Master’s degree is mandatory, along with a minimum of two years of experience in higher education academic advising, support services, or related fields. A successful background check is a prerequisite.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with undergraduate students in a higher education setting is highly desirable.
Skills and Competencies
Candidates should demonstrate a thorough understanding of university policies and procedures. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills are essential, along with the ability to manage detailed tasks, navigate interruptions, and maintain confidentiality regarding student records. Proficiency in information technology, including database and spreadsheet software, is required. The ability to engage and motivate both traditional and nontraditional students is crucial. While standard office hours are maintained, flexibility for evening and weekend commitments may be necessary.
