Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Transportation Technician to join our team at OmniSource. As a key member of our maintenance team, you will be responsible for performing routine PM service on all transportation equipment, including yard maintenance vehicles, and performing DOT safety regulated repairs as needed.

Responsibilities
  • Inspect and repair basic engine components, including brakes, suspension, and steering systems.
  • Perform basic electrical troubleshooting and repair, including wiring and circuit analysis.
  • Change tires, make brake adjustments, and fix lights, ensuring all vehicles are safe and roadworthy.
  • Perform preventative/corrective maintenance on truck & trailers, including oil changes, filter replacements, and tire rotations.
  • Maintain complete and accurate maintenance documentation, including work orders and repair records.
  • Operate forklift, ability to drive Truck and Trailer, and perform other tasks as assigned.
  • Follow good housekeeping standards, ensuring a clean and organized work environment.
  • Welding and fabrication as needed, using various materials and techniques.
  • Make recommendations for process system improvements, enhancing efficiency and productivity.
  • Knowledge of industrial safety and OSHA guidelines, ensuring a safe working environment.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of two years experience with general knowledge of DOT truck maintenance requirements.
  • A clear understanding and adherence to safety regulations, including OSHA guidelines.
  • Ability to work in all types of weather conditions, including extreme temperatures and humidity.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. or more consistently, with or without assistance.
  • Ability to read schematics, diagrams, and blueprints, including technical manuals and repair guides.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including ability to communicate effectively with team members and management.
  • Must have strong welding and fabrication skills, including ability to use various materials and techniques.
  • Must be highly self-motivated, with ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Team player dedicated to the organization, with ability to work collaboratively with others.
  • Flexible working hours, including ability to work varied shifts and overtime as needed.
  • Class A CDL license a plus, but not required.
