Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Registered Nurse to join our CVICU/Step Down Unit team at Central Maine Medical Center. As a critical care nurse, you will provide high-quality patient care and work collaboratively with our interdisciplinary team to ensure the best possible outcomes for our patients.

Responsibilities
  • Obtain nursing history, perform nursing assessments, and develop plans of care for patients.
  • Perform head-to-toe assessments and reassessments as per policy, including adult, geriatric, and general patient populations.
  • Demonstrate time-conscious awareness and ability to prioritize during high-acuity situations.
  • Provide patient care responsibilities considering needs specific to the standard of care for patient's age.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age of the patient and their clinical condition.
  • Follow the five medication rights and reduce the potential for medication errors.
  • Assist physicians with procedures and perform services requiring technical and manual skills.
  • Start peripheral IVs and care for post-surgical patients.
  • Treat patients and their families with respect and dignity, identifying and addressing psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, and religious/spiritual needs.
  • Function as a liaison between administration, patients, physicians, and other healthcare providers.
  • Interact professionally with patient/family and provide appropriate care and information based on patient status.
Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Current Registered Nurse License in the state of Maine, BSN preferred.
  • Current ACLS and BLS.
  • One year of nursing experience preferred.
  • Bilingual preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to engage patients and team members utilizing the CMH Experience Standards.
  • Knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and the skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care to the patient population served.
  • Ability to interpret data about the patient's status in order to identify each patient's age-specific needs and provide care needed by the patient group.
  • Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/healthcare errors.
