Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities
- Manage a book of complex primary, direct excess, and reinsurance claims involving Public Sector risks, including professional liability, general liability, automobile, school board legal liability, employment practices liability, law enforcement liability, and public officials liability exposures.
- Investigate and maintain claims, reviewing and evaluating coverage and/or liability, securing necessary information, and working toward the resolution of claims files.
- Attend arbitrations, mediations, depositions, or trials as necessary, and convey complex information to all appropriate parties.
- Ensure that claims payments are issued in a timely and accurate manner, and ensure compliance with all state, legal, statutory, and regulatory bodies.
- Serve as the technical expert on products, evaluating and making recommendations to executive management on internal and external issues of strategic importance.
- Accountable for achieving performance targets and business results, providing technical advice, assistance, and training to lower-level positions, management, and other functional areas.
- Interact with underwriting and marketing regarding claims trend issues, and perform claim reviews and compliance audits of third-party administrators and self-insured pools.
Job Requirements
- JD (Juris Doctorate) preferred, or Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience.
- 8 to 10 years of related experience, with multi-lines claims handling experience preferred.
- Experience in litigation, professional and general liability, coverage, and reinsurance preferred.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, time management skills, and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft365 suite of products.
- Must be open to travel, including overnight travel as needed.
