Stevenson School, a distinguished co-educational institution catering to students from preschool through 12th grade, is dedicated to fostering a nurturing environment that emphasizes academic excellence and personal growth. We are currently seeking a School Counselor for Grades PK-8 to join our Health and Wellness Team. This role is integral to promoting the social and emotional well-being of our students.
The School Counselor will report directly to the leadership of the middle and lower divisions and will play a crucial role in our crisis response initiatives. The primary focus will be on enhancing student well-being by addressing psychological and emotional challenges through both short-term and long-term counseling, as well as crisis intervention and risk assessment. This is a full-time position, operating on a 10-month academic calendar.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide individualized and group therapeutic support to students, equipping them with coping strategies, resilience, and effective communication skills.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of counseling sessions and related activities.
- Engage in continuous dialogue with faculty and administrators to identify behavioral patterns that may indicate a need for counseling.
- Consult with families, nursing staff, and school administration to create care plans and actionable strategies for students requiring additional support.
- Serve as a knowledgeable resource for students and families seeking community-based services, including mental health evaluations and specialized treatment.
- Collaborate with divisional leadership and faculty to design and implement a robust Social Emotional Learning (SEL) curriculum.
- Actively participate in school activities and community events.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Advanced degree in counseling (LMHS, MSW, or PhD).
- Licensure in marriage and family therapy, clinical psychology, or clinical social work.
- Current certification to practice in California.
- A minimum of five years of post-master's clinical experience with adolescents and families; 5-10 years preferred.
- Extensive experience working with children and adolescents.
- Strong interpersonal skills with a proven ability to foster collegial relationships.
- Exceptional communication skills, encompassing reading, writing, speaking, and listening.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively and build trust within the school community.
- Commitment to maintaining the highest level of professionalism and confidentiality.
- Dedication to culturally competent practices, addressing the needs of a diverse and inclusive community.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in an independent school environment.
- 5-10 years of post-master's clinical experience with adolescents and families.
- Significant involvement in developing age-appropriate social emotional learning programs.
- Proficiency in a second language.
We offer a competitive salary range of $75,000 - $125,000 annually, commensurate with experience, along with a comprehensive benefits package that includes health plan options, retirement contributions, life insurance, and professional development opportunities. Additional support may be available for eligible employees.
