About the Role

We are seeking a Support Staff member to join our team at the Nevada Cares Campus, a safe haven for individuals experiencing homelessness in the Reno area. As a Support Staff, you will play a vital role in providing quality service to our program participants, ensuring their safety and well-being, and supporting the overall mission of Volunteers of America Northern California & Northern Nevada, Inc.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide supportive interaction with program participants and team members, ensuring a safe and non-judgmental environment.
  • Assess participants' needs and provide assistance as required.
  • Perform daily work duties, including meal preparation, bed assignments, showers, and laundry.
  • Conduct hourly safety and security checks, and respond to crisis situations as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports, including daily logs and incident reports.
  • Perform housekeeping and maintenance tasks, ensuring a clean and safe environment for participants and staff.
  • Respond to participant questions and concerns, providing clear and thorough communication.
  • Perform clerical duties, including answering phones and filing as needed.
  • Assist with participant property management, including inventory and storage.
  • Support the development of new staff members, providing training and guidance as needed.
  • Assist with mail program, including processing and distributing mail to participants and staff.
  • Support participant development, helping residents achieve self-sufficiency and independence.
Requirements
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and comprehend oral and written instructions.
  • General knowledge of issues and challenges unique to homelessness, substance abuse, and other related areas.
  • Ability to work irregular hours and function as a team member.
  • Computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • CPR and First Aid training within 90 days of employment.
  • Valid Nevada driver's license preferred.
  • Ability to lift and move up to 30 pounds, and physically able to safely maneuver the weight distribution of a client in an emergency.
