Overview of the Role:The HVAC/R Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of heating and air conditioning systems across various facilities.
Key Responsibilities:• Install, maintain, and repair environmental control systems in residential, laboratory, and commercial settings, utilizing expertise in refrigeration principles, pipefitting, and structural design.
• Secure compressor and condenser units to platforms or floors using hand tools, adhering to blueprints or engineering specifications.
• Fabricate, assemble, and install ductwork and chassis components using portable metalworking tools and welding equipment.
• Install evaporator units in chassis or air duct systems using hand tools.
• Cut and bend tubing to precise lengths and shapes using appropriate cutting and bending tools.
• Cut and thread pipes using machine or hand-threading equipment.
• Connect tubing or pipes to refrigerating units with sleeves, couplings, or unions, and solder joints using a torch to create a complete refrigerant circuit.
• Install expansion and discharge valves within the circuit.
• Connect motors, compressors, and temperature control panels to power sources.
• Install air and water filters in completed systems.
• Inject refrigerant into compressors to test systems and add refrigerant gas to achieve required operating pressure.
• Monitor pressure and vacuum gauges, adjusting controls to ensure optimal operation.
• Start units and adjust settings for proper refrigeration, air conditioning, humidification, heating, air cleaning, and circulation.
• Optimize system performance through adjustments.
• Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair refrigeration, air conditioning, gas, and hydronic heating systems through regular maintenance checks and troubleshooting reports.
• Test joints and connections for gas leaks using gauges or electronic detection methods.
• Insulate pipes with batting and secure them using cement or wire bands.
• Replace faulty breaker controls, thermostats, switches, fuses, and electrical wiring to repair installed units using appropriate tools and testing equipment.
• May install, repair, and service air conditioning units with varying cooling capacities in diverse building types.
• Perform additional related duties as assigned.
Accountability:• Proper utilization of tools and equipment commonly used in the HVAC field.
• Completion of all required training as mandated by government and management directives.
• Timely and cost-effective execution of responsibilities.
• Accurate and timely completion of all departmental tasks.
• Professional interaction with a diverse range of individuals in various situations.
• Adherence to established safety policies and best practices in industrial and office environments.
• Compliance with company Standard Operating Procedures and personnel policies.
• Ability to perform well under pressure.
Qualifications:
Required Skills and Experience:• Minimum of four years of experience in HVAC/R mechanical and machine equipment repair.
• Successful completion of two vocational training courses in refrigeration, air conditioning, and controls (e.g., vocational technical school, community college, military training).
• Proficiency in using specialized tools for HVAC/R repair tasks.
• Ability to troubleshoot equipment effectively. Must possess and maintain necessary hand tools for the trade.
• Valid Class 1 & 2 (and Universal if required) refrigerant certification.
• Familiarity with Windows operating systems (HVAC PRO) is desirable.
• Valid state-issued driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
• Ability to pass background checks and/or drug testing as required.
• U.S. Citizenship.
• Must meet and maintain company physical and security requirements, including respirator qualification and clearance eligibility when necessary.
• Capability to lift 50 lbs.
• Strong communication skills suitable for a service team environment.
Compensation: $46.68 per hour
