Job Summary

The Medical Physicist plays a critical role in ensuring the safe and accurate delivery of radiation dose to cancer patients. This position requires a high level of expertise in radiation oncology and medical physics, with a focus on designing and implementing quality management programs for radiotherapy equipment and therapeutic radioisotopes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and implement quality management programs for radiotherapy equipment and therapeutic radioisotopes
  • Ensure the safe and accurate delivery of radiation dose to cancer patients
  • Develop and implement treatment plans, including stereotactic radiosurgery, stereotactic body radiation therapy, high dose rate brachytherapy, and low dose rate brachytherapy
  • Collaborate with radiation oncologists to develop special physics consults for treatment strategies
  • Participate in the treatment planning and verification of special treatment procedures
  • Develop purchasing and acceptance specifications for imaging and radiation therapy equipment
  • Consult with radiation oncologists on patient doses and optimization of patient treatment plans and delivery
  • Develop, implement, and supervise quality control programs in the radiology or radiation oncology department
  • Supervise the design and construction of patient treatment aids or special devices
  • Supervise brachytherapy procedures and abide by NRC/State regulations
  • Research and develop new devices and modalities for improved therapeutic uses of radiation
  • Provide technical direction of radiation oncology staff
  • Develop policy and procedures related to radiation safety and radiation oncology physics
Requirements
  • Masters Degree required
  • ABR Board Certification eligible
  • ABR Board Certification in Therapeutic Radiological Physics preferred
  • Knowledgeable in areas of anatomy, physiology, clinical oncology, radiobiology, radiation physics, and radiation safety
  • Expertise in the technical aspects of radiation oncology and medical physics
  • Knowledgeable in health care informatics
  • Working knowledge of radiation safety principles and practices
