Job Description and Duties

The CalSTRS Retirement Readiness Division is seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to work as a Staff Services Manager I (Specialist) at the Santa Clara MSC. The Retirement Readiness (RR) Division is the principal area of the organization that develops, delivers, and coordinates educational services to CalSTRS members, employers, and staff. The goal of RR is to ensure that all members receive adequate, timely, and accurate information in order to make sound decisions regarding their CalSTRS benefits.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Operate as the Assistant MSC Manager and Defined Contribution hybrid specialist, performing a wide variety of complex tasks associated with the operational activities of the MSC.
  • Exercise discretion, diplomacy, confidentiality, leadership, and initiative while taking independent action to resolve issues as they arise.
  • Develop and maintain effective, positive, collaborative working relationships with peers, leaders, team members, and key stakeholders.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to staff, ensuring the successful completion of tasks and projects.
  • Collaborate with the Pension2 Development Managers to achieve divisional goals and objectives.
Requirements:
  • Leadership experience with a proven track record of success.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse groups.
  • Experience with Pension and benefits programs, defined contribution plans, 403(b) and 457(b), mutual funds or annuity type products.
  • Ability to enable the process of change and transition while helping others.
  • Strong analytical and research skills, with the ability to analyze complex data and make informed decisions.
  • Experience with public speaking and presenting information to various audiences.
  • Experience facilitating workshops and sessions.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and across divisions and units.
