Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Histology Technician to join our team at Yellowstone Pathology Institute, Inc. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing all duties required for histologic examination of tissues, including embedding tissue samples, operating tissue processors, microtomes, and stainers, cutting and staining frozen section specimens, and performing routine microtomy and special stains as requested.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform gross examination of surgical pathology specimens
  • Embed tissue samples and operate tissue processors, microtomes, and stainers
  • Cut and stain frozen section specimens
  • Perform routine microtomy and special stains as requested
  • Assist in the preparation and performance of surgical specimen dissection
  • Process specimens, including inking and cutting of specimen and submission of specimen to histology using standardized protocols
Requirements
  • Five years or more of experience in histology preferred
  • Ability to cut tissue using a microtome and perform associated stains using lab equipment
  • Demonstrated familiarity with anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and computer operations
  • Basic knowledge of human anatomy, macrosurgical techniques, general laboratory skills
  • Understanding of safety and infection control requirements of position
  • Ability to obtain and prepare tissue for pathology evaluation, aids pathologists in a timely and quality manner
Preferred Qualifications
  • ASCP certification as a Histotechnician or Histotechnologist
  • Bachelor's or master's degree from an accredited program
  • Previous hospital lab experience
Work Environment

The successful candidate will work in a fast-paced, local and independently owned laboratory in Billings, Montana. The laboratory is a CAP certified reference laboratory that serves hospitals and clinics throughout Montana, Northern Wyoming, and Eastern Idaho.
