Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and Implement Individualized Education Plans: Create and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with disabilities, taking into account their unique learning needs and goals.
- Adapt Instructional Materials: Adapt and create instructional materials to meet the diverse learning needs of each student, ensuring that all students have access to high-quality education.
- Provide Direct Instruction and Support: Provide direct instruction and support in various educational settings, including inclusive classrooms and small group settings, to ensure that students receive the support they need to succeed.
- Collaborate with Colleagues: Collaborate effectively with general education teachers, therapists, and parents to ensure coordinated and comprehensive support for students, promoting a positive and supportive classroom environment.
- Assess Student Progress: Assess student progress regularly and adjust instructional strategies to facilitate academic and behavioral growth, ensuring that students meet their learning goals.
- Maintain Accurate Records: Maintain accurate and detailed records of student progress, attendance, and behavior, providing valuable insights for future instruction and support.
- Implement Positive Behavior Interventions: Implement positive behavior interventions and supports (PBIS) to promote a positive and supportive classroom environment, encouraging students to develop positive behaviors and attitudes.
Requirements:
- Education and Certification: Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related field, and an Arizona teaching certificate with a Special Education endorsement (cross-categorical or specific disability area).
- Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge of best practices in special education, including IEP development and differentiated instruction, as well as strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and families.
- Personal Qualities: Compassion, patience, and a commitment to advocating for students with disabilities, with a passion for making a positive impact on the lives of students and their families.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced Education: Master's degree in Special Education or a related field.
- Experience Working with Students with Disabilities: Experience working with students with specific disabilities such as autism spectrum disorders, emotional disabilities, or intellectual disabilities.
- Familiarity with Assistive Technology: Familiarity with assistive technology and its application in educational settings.
