As a Respiratory Care Practitioner in Ambulatory, you will play a vital role in delivering developmentally appropriate care to our patients.

You will work effectively with members of the healthcare team, including families, to provide high-quality care and support.

This role requires a strong foundation in respiratory care, with a focus on mechanical ventilation, aerosol therapy, and pulmonary hygiene.

You will also be responsible for documenting patient status, patient response, and respiratory practitioner interventions accurately and clearly.

Additionally, you will provide and reinforce health teaching with patients and families, and participate in multidisciplinary treatment teams.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct patient care, including mechanical ventilation, aerosol therapy, and pulmonary hygiene.
  • Document patient status, patient response, and respiratory practitioner interventions accurately and clearly.
  • Provide and reinforce health teaching with patients and families.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary treatment teams.
  • Precept novice therapists.
  • Utilize available resources to impact patient care and solve practice problems.
  • Be a member of interdisciplinary committees/project/task forces.
  • Practice contributes toward achieving Respiratory Care Vision Statement.
  • Utilize the National Patient Safety Goals to provide a safe environment for patients.
  • Perform diagnostic testing in pulmonary lab.
  • Participate in the development of professional and educational activities.
  • Support professional organization of Respiratory Care.
  • Share pertinent information gained from professional seminars, conferences, books, or journals.
  • Assist in identifying learning needs of staff therapists and other healthcare workers.
  • Develop, present, and evaluate programs to meet educational needs of other healthcare workers.
  • Be a member of interdisciplinary committees/project/task forces.
  • Incorporate research to clinical practice.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of research and quality improvement activities.
  • Read and evaluate current research that has implications for clinical practice.
  • Share research findings with colleagues to improve clinical practice.
  • Participate in research and quality improvement activities.

How You'll Be Successful:

WORK EXPERIENCE

  • At least 2 years full-time experience following graduation from a Respiratory Care program.
  • At least 3 years experience, preferably in pediatric/neonatal care.
  • Associates Degree in Respiratory Care preferred.

EDUCATION

  • Two-year Associate's degree or equivalent experience.
  • Four-year Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience preferred.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

  • Current Texas license.
  • RRT.
  • Completion in Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Providers (HCPs) through the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Must obtain PACES certification within 6 months of hire.
  • AARC Membership, NPS, CPFT or RPFT preferred.
  • Asthma Management Program only: Asthma Educator certification within one and a half (1.5) years of hire.
  • Asthma Management Program only: Valid Texas driver license.
