Mortgage Loan Originator Job Description

As a Mortgage Loan Originator at Interra Credit Union, you will play a crucial role in initiating the residential mortgage process for potential members. Your primary responsibility will be to prepare, analyze, and verify mortgage loan applications for the purchase or refinance of real estate.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Meet with and interview potential and current members to understand their lending needs.
  • Explain the differences between various types of mortgages and prepare a lending package based on member specifications.
  • Assist members with the completion of mortgage applications and inspect completed documents for accuracy and thoroughness.
  • Review loan applications, gather credit histories and reports, and assess applicants' capacity to repay and default risk.
  • Originate residential mortgage loans in applicable systems, provide disclosures and required documentation, and obtain proper signatures following regulatory timeline requirements.
  • Keep members and realtors up to date on the status of their loan application.
  • Attend title company closing, as needed.

Requirements:

  • 3+ years of mortgage loan, sales, or related experience.
  • Experience with Federal Housing Authority (FHA), Veterans Affairs (VA), and Federal National Mortgage (Fannie Mae), construction loans, bridge loans, and reverse mortgage loans is required.
  • NMLS and State Licensing Required.

Preferred Skills:

  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Thorough understanding of Federal Housing Authority (FHA), Veterans Affairs (VA), Federal National Mortgage (Fannie Mae), and other types of construction and conventional loans.
  • Professional level of verbal and written communication skills are essential to the position.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Credit Union regulations, products, policies, procedures, and services.
  • Ability to deal with complex problems involving multiple facets, variables, and situations.

  • Must be able to speak clearly and deliver information in a logical and understandable sequence.
