Position Overview

We are looking for a Senior Associate in Trade Compliance to become a vital part of our growing Trade Compliance division within the legal sector. This role is responsible for conducting export classifications, assisting with licensing, reviewing technical documentation, and managing IT systems, all while ensuring compliance with U.S. international trade laws and regulations. The ideal candidate will possess a robust technical or engineering background, along with either experience in trade compliance or a strong desire to learn and enhance skills in this area. A keen ability to analyze intricate information and a dedication to maintaining precise records are essential.

This role will engage with U.S. government agencies across various sectors, including intelligence, space, cyber, defense, and civilian markets.

* This position allows for occasional telework but requires candidates to be local to the DC Metro area.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform classification determinations and offer technical advice on export classification and licensing issues.
  • Review technical documentation for Public Information Review Authorizations (PIRA).
  • Conduct research and analysis of technical data as it pertains to U.S. international trade laws and regulations.
  • Support the implementation and testing of new trade compliance management tools and provide training to personnel on their use.
  • Assist in the evaluation and approval of international shipments (both exports and imports), foreign travel, and foreign visitors, ensuring compliance with regulations and export authorizations.
  • Maintain export and import records in accordance with U.S. regulatory requirements and company policies.
Qualifications

Essential:
  • Associate's degree in a technical or engineering field, with four years of experience in research and technical analysis related to U.S. international trade laws and regulations.
    • Six or more years of relevant experience may substitute for formal education.
  • Capability to obtain a Top Secret security clearance.
  • Proficient in record-keeping and data management practices.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with internal teams and clients.
  • Detail-oriented with a strong emphasis on accuracy.
  • Excellent organizational skills with proven experience in managing multiple deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, along with interpersonal abilities.
  • Must reside in the DC Metro area.
Preferred:
  • Active Top Secret security clearance.
  • Prior experience assessing technical specifications against U.S. government control lists (USML and CCL) for export control classifications.
  • Experience with PIRA.
  • Familiarity with international trade laws and regulations, including ITAR and EAR.

Target Salary Range

$80,000 - $128,000. This range reflects the typical salary for this position based on experience and other relevant factors.
