Christus Health is seeking a skilled and compassionate Registered Nurse to join our team in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). As a Registered Nurse in our ICU, you will provide high-quality patient care to critically ill adults and elderly adults, working collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to ensure the best possible outcomes.
Key Responsibilities- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care to meet the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of patients and their families.
- Prepare equipment and assist physicians during examinations and treatments, administering prescribed medications and monitoring patient vital signs.
- Participate in the planning and implementing of patient care, directing and assisting in carrying out safe aseptic technique and procedures.
- Offer leadership and direction to support staff within the department, promoting a culture of excellence and teamwork.
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with a current Texas State RN License.
- One year of experience in nursing, preferably in a critical care setting.
- CPR (American Heart Association) certification and ACLS certification within six months of hire/transfer date.
- NIHSS certification within 90 days of hire/transfer date.
The ICU is a 10-bed unit specializing in the care of critically ill adults and elderly adults. We have an average daily census of 8 and monitor up to 24 telemetry units. The most frequent medical diagnoses seen include myocardial infarction, congestive heart failure, arrhythmias, COPD, septic shock, CVA, overdoses, hypertensive crisis, pneumonia, and DKA. Common surgical conditions include appendectomy, exploratory laparotomy, cholecystectomy, bowel resection, hysterectomy, and amputation.
