Tax Manager

We are seeking a highly skilled Tax Manager to join our team at Heard, McElroy & Vestal, LLC CPA. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing specific client groups, advising clients on corporate tax services, and developing and training team members.
Key Responsibilities- Client Service & Technical
- Manage and prepare complex individual, partnership, and corporate income tax returns in various industries.
- Perform client work on time, appropriate scope of services, and within budget.
- Responsible for service quality, thoroughness, and accuracy, proactively working with clients to gather data and follow-up on open items.
- Understand tax concepts and effectively apply tax knowledge to client situations.
- Develop and deliver innovative tax planning ideas with timely and responsive services and work product that meets and/or exceeds client expectations.
- Gain understanding of clients' businesses, objectives, and industries, and prepare practical and creative solutions to clients' tax situations.
- Review research findings, tax returns, and work papers, formulate conclusions consistent with HMV policies and professional standards, and determine implications and best course of action for clients.
- Keep clients informed of tax developments that affect their businesses.
- Maintain knowledge of accounting and tax requirements, ensuring compliance with internal and external requirements, staying abreast of any changes.
- Maintain required CPE for Firm and licensing standards.
- Client Relationships & Development
- Develop an understanding of the service capabilities and offerings of the Firm, recognizing opportunities to provide additional services to new or existing clients.
- Establish and maintain long-term working relationships with clients.
- Leadership & Administration
- Demonstrate appropriate leadership skills, including effective and timely engagement oversight and review, timely and accurate communications with staff at all levels, timely and accurate identification of technical issues, timely and appropriate identification of any staff issues and/or concerns, timely client communications regarding open items, and other similar items.
- Monitor workload to meet billable hour and realization expectations and to ensure efficient scheduling of staff.
- Recognize resource/team capabilities and delegate work effectively, holding team accountable.
- Draft billing to be approved by Director or Partner.
- Mentor and develop staff, including participation in the recruitment and retention of professional staff.
- Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university in Accounting with strong academic track record (minimum GPA of 3.0).
- CPA certification required.
- Six years current and/or recent public accounting experience in preparing income tax returns and researching tax issues preferred.
- Supervisory experience required.
Promote the firm's culture, including supporting Heard, McElroy & Vestal's philosophy of developing a relationship with each client on a personal level, catering to their specific needs. Ability and judgment to interact and communicate appropriately with other employees, clients, and management. Actively develop team members at all levels. Ability to serve clients, both internal and external (community/public), in a manner that will support superior client relations.
