The Progressive Care Registered Nurse coordinates and delivers high-quality, patient-centered care in a fast-paced, 36-bed critical care step-down unit. In collaboration with medical providers, the RN provides pre-operative and post-operative nursing care, advocating for patients to support an unparalleled patient experience.
Responsibilities- Assess patient condition during admission and during each shift, identifying and reporting any changes in patient status.
- Perform procedures or other functions as ordered by the medical provider.
- Document the administration of care in the patient medical record in a timely and thorough manner.
- Perform the administration of prescribed medications and monitors response.
- Maintain a knowledge of medications, procedures, and equipment used in the care of cardiac and medical-surgical patients.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 1 year of employment start date.
- Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date.
- Registered Nurse
- Bachelors Degree, or Associate Degree, or Registered Nurse Diploma
This unit is a 36-bed critical care step-down unit, caring for patients with post open-heart procedures, pulmonary, cardiovascular, no vents, stroke, diabetes DKA, insulin drips, Cath Lab (post stent or Stemi), Trauma. The average patient stay is 2-7 days. This is a team-work oriented unit, genuinely caring about one another and providing support in times of high patient volume.
This is a great opportunity to gain critical care experience and work in a unit that historically has not had Tech support, making it an ideal time to be a Patient Care Technician and gain some experience with higher acuity patients.

We offer many features for visitors, including sleeper chairs in patient rooms, comfortable waiting areas, and wireless internet access. We are a Level II Trauma Center with 24/7 emergency services and an accredited Chest Pain Center. Our Orthopedic Services include Total Joints and Sports Medicine. We are an accredited Cancer Program and Breast Center. We provide Women's Services, a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, and a Stroke Center. Our Outpatient Services include a Surgery Center, Advanced Wound Care Center, Pain Center, Sleep Disorder Center, Imaging, and Rehab. We are part of HCA Midwest Health, a network of hospitals in Kansas City and surrounding areas.
