Responsible for conducting inspections, repairs, replacements, and maintenance of various equipment, fixtures, systems, and building surfaces within the facility, necessitating state licensure. Ensures optimal safety and compliance with organizational, state, federal, and regulatory requirements. Assists other personnel as needed and reports to the Director of Facilities Engineering.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Install, repair, replace, maintain, or modify items or systems covered by the State of Connecticut License types such as "P-1, S-1, or S-2, P-1, P-2, MG1, MG2, or F-1, F-2."
- Install, repair, replace, maintain, or modify ductwork and specialized hospital equipment, including sterilizers, operating room tables, laundry, and dietary equipment.
- Operate and maintain various mechanical equipment, including but not limited to boilers, blowers, chillers, absorbers, pumps, compressors, and building automation systems.
- Inspect, adjust, repair, and document readings on a variety of mechanical equipment and systems, ensuring output remains within accepted parameters.
- Respond to alarms, occupant, user, and other environmental customer complaints, acting as a liaison within the department and taking necessary corrective actions or coordinating work completion as required.
- Receive inventories, calculate quantities, requisition, and distribute materials and supplies for special projects and routine stock, adhering to departmental policies.
- Maintain a clean and orderly working area, performing all job duties in accordance with standard safety procedures to ensure a safe and comfortable environment for patients, visitors, and staff.
- Foster effective working relationships within the department, collaborating with other healthcare professionals and assisting staff in completing major repairs and installations to support the department and hospital's objectives.
- Perform other related duties as necessary.
- Conduct air testing and air balancing for hospital operating rooms.
- Test patient rooms to ensure they meet the necessary negative air requirements.
- Must possess S1 or S2 License along with one or more of the following licenses: P-1, P-2, MG-1, MG-2, F-1, F-2.
- Compensation will be provided for additional licenses beyond S-1, S-2.
- Preferred minimum of 5 years' experience in facility maintenance.
- Ability to utilize common hand tools and a variety of portable and fixed power tools, following instructions and manuals.
- Ability to interpret basic construction drawings, diagrams, schematics, and blueprints.
- Knowledge of operating principles of plumbing and mechanical systems found in large, complex facilities.
- Familiarity with applicable codes, regulations, and federal and state laws related to licensed trades and safety.
- Good hand-eye coordination.
- Physical ability to perform a full range of motions and positions, including bending, pushing, pulling, squatting, and prolonged standing and walking. Must be able to lift up to 100 pounds and work from ladders and scaffolding.
- Ability to function in various interior and exterior temperatures and weather conditions.
- Basic sensory perceptions must be within normal ranges or correctable to that range, with the ability to distinguish colors accurately.
- Basic computer skills and the ability to access the internet and other programs relevant to Waterbury Hospital procedures.
- Perform automated functions that fall within job responsibilities.
- Rotating shifts with a duration of 8 hours.
- Most work is performed indoors.
- Outdoor tasks include checking oil spills, buckets, and spill kits as oil trucks arrive to load oil for generators, as well as monitoring oil tank levels throughout the loading process.
- Main work areas include the temperature-controlled boiler house and the temperature-controlled medical facility.
- Workers may be outside during some inspections and maintenance tasks.
- The flooring is hard-surfaced, presenting minimal rolling resistance during push/pull tasks.
- Employees are required to wear a work uniform, including work boots.
- Hand trucks, drum dollies, carts, and flatbed carts are used occasionally.
- Work aids such as stepladders, step stools, and extension ladders are utilized in the boiler house and other areas as needed.
- Brooms, small hand tools, power tools, repair tools, scissors, shovels, rags, and extension cords are all used occasionally.
