Position Overview
The Audiologist is responsible for conducting comprehensive audiological assessments across various age demographics, including specialized evaluations. This role involves ensuring the proper fitting of hearing devices and determining the suitability of rehabilitative services. The Audiologist also provides essential counseling to patients and their families.
Key Responsibilities
- Conducts thorough examinations, utilizing detailed questionnaires and a series of tests to assess the auditory and vestibular systems; interprets results and communicates findings to the referring physician.
- Prepares and disseminates diagnostic reports, ensuring confidentiality and proper distribution as authorized by the patient or their family.
- Administers a diverse range of audiological assessments to evaluate hearing levels and identify potential damage to the auditory system; anticipates the social impact of hearing loss and predicts the benefits of hearing aids or specialized training.
- Provides counseling to patients and their families regarding test outcomes and recommendations; collaborates with medical professionals on audiological and vestibular issues, offering guidance on patient referrals and management.
- Facilitates cochlear implant services as needed.
- Manages inventory and initiates orders for replacement supplies to maintain adequate operational levels; ensures proper storage of materials.
- Delivers educational and practical training to residents, medical students, and other healthcare staff.
- Engages in research activities, conferences, and professional meetings.
- Performs additional duties as required, with all responsibilities considered essential functions of the role under applicable regulations.
Qualifications
- A Master's Degree in Audiology or a related field is required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- A valid license to practice as an Audiologist in New York State, along with current Clinical Competence - AUD (ASHA) Certification, is mandatory, along with any specialized certifications as necessary.
- 1-3 years of relevant professional experience is required.
