Job SummaryWe are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Boatman and Athletic Facilities Specialist to join our team at St. Paul's School. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining and operating our rowing equipment and facilities, as well as providing support for various athletic events and activities.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare and maintain rowing shells and motorboats for daily practice and competition.
- Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on rowing equipment, including engines, launches, and oars.
- Coordinate logistics and work with repair companies to ensure proper registration, inspection, and maintenance of rowing equipment.
- Plan and execute equipment winterizing schedules and activities with head coaches.
- Coordinate and execute transportation of rowing shells and equipment to and from events.
- Support competitive trips, including loading and unloading of trailers, assembly and disassembly of shells, and long-distance driving.
- Register and maintain boats and trailers, including shell trailers, and ensure all lights and tires are in good condition.
- Maintain coach launches, including fuel levels and engine oil and gear oil levels.
- Maintain all aspects of rowing shell rigging according to coach specifications and requests.
- Maintain cox box systems, including batteries, cords, and speakers, as well as two-way radios and bullhorns for coaches and boatmen.
- Perform winter maintenance tasks, including installing ice eaters under docks and launch houses, and turning on roof heat trace systems.
- Construct and maintain athletic facilities, including turf fields, cross-country trails, and indoor and outdoor facilities.
- Perform line painting for athletic fields and maintain and repair athletic equipment.
- Support various athletic events and activities, including hockey season, rowing regattas, and alumni events.
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Ability to read and interpret documents, including safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence, and communicate effectively with coaches and crew members.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Valid driver's license and DOT Health Card required.
The work environment for this position will be primarily outdoors, with occasional work in high or precarious places. The employee may be exposed to outside weather conditions and will be required to stand on and in wet areas to perform required work.
The noise level in the work environment is moderate.
Overtime may be required based on the needs of the department and the School. Weekends are required for School events.
