The Computer Science Department within the College of Engineering is actively seeking candidates from diverse cultural and professional backgrounds for the role of Adjunct Faculty Member (open rank).

Since its establishment, the Virginia Commonwealth University College of Engineering has been dedicated to providing innovative and practical engineering education to the region.

The College encompasses five distinct departments along with the Dean's office, serving over 1,700 undergraduate and 250 graduate students across various degree programs, supported by a workforce of approximately 550 full-time, part-time, and student employees.

Key Responsibilities:

This adjunct role involves instructing undergraduate courses in computer science. The primary mode of delivery will be in-person, although some courses may be offered in an online asynchronous format. Preference will be given to candidates who can conduct in-person classes.

Responsibilities include:

  • Developing and presenting lectures that align with established course learning objectives
  • Creating and assigning homework and examinations pertinent to the course
  • Evaluating homework and exams, and determining final course grades
  • Gathering assessment data and student work samples as required
  • Holding office hours to address student inquiries and providing prompt email responses
Required Qualifications:

  • Master's degree from an accredited Computer Science program

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Prior teaching experience at the undergraduate level
