Job Title: School Aide

Job Summary:

The School Aide is a vital member of our educational team, providing support to students with instructional and behavioral needs under the supervision of the special education department. This role requires a unique blend of patience, understanding, and communication skills to ensure students receive the assistance they need to succeed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Follows through with IEP objectives, including math, reading, speech, and independent skills, in a one-on-one or group setting.
  • Facilitates teacher-directed learning activities, such as lesson plans, worksheets, and reinforcement systems.
  • Assists students during general education classes and communicates pertinent information to teachers.
  • Accompanies students during recess, lunch, and community experiences, promoting socialization and development.
  • Maintains confidentiality and adheres to strict confidentiality requirements regarding student, parent, and classroom activities.
  • Assists with activities of prescribed programs, including those written by related service personnel, such as PT, OT, and SLP.
  • Supports students in developing independent skills through self-care activities, such as toileting, clothing routines, feeding, and personal hygiene.
  • May be asked to assist in behavior management techniques under the direction of the teacher and/or other school professionals.
  • Assists with clerical duties, including making stimuli, making copies, maintaining a clean and organized classroom, preparing materials, and assignment scoring.
  • Assists with transfers and ambulation, ensuring student safety and well-being.

Requirements:

  • Complies with all relevant professional standards of practice.
  • Participation and completion of Amergis' Competency program when applicable.
  • Current CPR certification if applicable.
  • TB questionnaire, PPD, or chest x-ray if applicable.
  • Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation).
  • Must meet all federal, state, and local requirements.
  • Successful completion of new hire training as applicable to the job site.
  • Understands patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements.
  • Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language is required.
  • Computer proficiency required.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
