The Powell 5 unit is a specialized 25-bed facility focusing on Neurosurgery, Trauma, and Orthopedic care for inpatients and short-term observation patients. As a vital component of the Level 1 Trauma program, we are recognized for excellence in patient care, particularly in total hip and knee replacement procedures. As a valued member of the Acute Care team, the LPN operates under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, delivering patient care while fostering a supportive environment for patients and their families. This role emphasizes teamwork to ensure high-quality patient and family care through evidence-based practices. The LPN is expected to maintain a practice environment aligned with the ANA Code for Nurses and collaborate effectively with other healthcare professionals.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Excellence & Patient Care

  • Utilizes clinical knowledge and skills to care for patients with physical disabilities and chronic conditions.
  • Delivers hands-on nursing care, applying the nursing process to achieve positive patient outcomes.
  • Supports and reinforces care provided by other team members.
  • Supervises unlicensed assistive personnel, demonstrating appropriate clinical judgment and delegation.
  • Communicates effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members to ensure comprehensive care.
  • Participates in patient assessments and contributes to care planning and evaluation.
  • Collaborates with healthcare professionals to facilitate optimal recovery opportunities for patients.

  • Analyzes clinical situations and seeks assistance as needed to meet patient needs.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Completion of an accredited licensed practical nurse program.
  • Current licensure in good standing as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or ability to obtain within three months of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in an Acute Care or Post-Acute Care setting.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic computer skills.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong communication skills in English.
  • Ability to think critically and make independent decisions.

This position may require occasional travel to other facilities and adherence to compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs.
