Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and certified Lifeguard to join our team at the City of Lompoc. As a Lifeguard, you will be responsible for maintaining a safe and enjoyable environment for our community members at the Lompoc Aquatic Center.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain active surveillance of the pool area and respond to emergency situations immediately.
  • Know and review all emergency procedures and complete related reports as required.
  • Ensure the safety of facility patrons by preventing and responding to emergencies.
  • Perform equipment checks and ensure appropriate equipment is available as needed.
  • Check the pool for hazardous conditions when arriving and perform chemical testing when not lifeguarding.
  • Attend all staff meetings and in-service trainings.
  • Assist in performing cleaning services of the pool and other assigned areas.
  • Maintain a level of professionalism and model customer service skills when interacting with patrons and program participants.
Requirements
  • Current possession of the following certifications: Basic Life Support (Professional Rescuer CPR/AED), First Aid, First Aid for Public Safety Personnel (Title 22), and YMCA Lifeguard or American Red Cross Lifeguard or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of lifesaving and swimming principles and practices, First Aid principles and practices, and safety rules, policies, and guidelines for the Aquatic Center.
  • Ability to maintain certification-level physical and mental readiness and demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA or American Red Cross standards.

The physical demands of this job include lifting, carrying, and/or pushing 100 pounds with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing 50 pounds. May involve significant standing, walking, sitting, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, handling, gripping, grasping, twisting at the waist, reaching at, above and below shoulder level, extending neck upward, downward, and side to side, climbing stairs, crouching, and kneeling.

The mental/psychological demands of this job include working cooperatively and interacting appropriately with those contacted in the course of work, responding quickly to changing priorities, communicating effectively orally, performing effective multi-tasking, understanding, remembering, and carrying out job instructions, and working under pressure.
