Position Overview
The Electrical Power Systems Engineer for AWS Data Center Power Generation and Transmission Infrastructure is responsible for the effective execution of cutting-edge energy innovations and electrical power generation infrastructure technologies from initial concept through to large-scale global deployment.


This role presents a unique opportunity to engage with advanced infrastructure solutions for high voltage and medium voltage power systems, collaborating with exceptional professionals in the field.


Key Responsibilities
You will closely collaborate with AWS Energy customers to comprehend their technical requirements and business objectives, utilizing your expertise in power generation (both combustion and renewable) design, alongside the knowledge of various teams to architect scalable solutions.

  • Lead initiatives within the global team and coordinate with internal and external stakeholders supporting our data centers.
  • Translate aspirational company or customer goals into well-defined, achievable specifications and solutions.
  • Oversee the feasibility, design, and construction of utility-scale generation facilities, energy storage systems, and related substations.
  • Develop design proposals that meet or exceed quality standards while adhering to budget constraints.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across different cultures and countries to produce comprehensive construction documentation.
  • Participate in site selection assessments.
  • Engage with local utilities and grid operators to define interconnection requirements.
  • Work with internal teams to gather user and customer requirements.
  • Specify appropriate electrical equipment in collaboration with regional vendors and manufacturers.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant standards and building codes through collaboration with local authorities.
  • Review and approve equipment submissions, including testing and commissioning protocols.
  • Define project scope and provide technical support for information requests during research and development initiatives.
  • Coordinate with commissioning teams to prepare testing scripts and validate the installation, operation, and performance of electrical systems.
  • Communicate effectively with individuals from diverse technical backgrounds.
  • Produce clear documentation such as detailed design specifications, functional test scripts, and reports.
  • Safeguard the implementation of the Global Electrical Basis of Design (BoD) through ongoing audits.
  • Travel to various sites for reviews and collaborate with onsite field engineers, providing engineering evaluations and electrical systems audits as necessary.
  • Manage multiple concurrent projects across different geographical regions.
  • Foster a creative environment by offering innovative solutions.

Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in engineering with a minimum of 5 years of experience in the design and operation of utility-scale power plants within a utility or project development context. Familiarity with US ANSI, UL, NERC, FERC, NESC, and European EN & IEC standards is essential.


Preferred qualifications include a Master's degree in electrical engineering and over 7 years of relevant design experience in deploying utility-scale power plants across the United States.
