Job Summary
This position is primarily responsible for accurately preparing, portioning, grilling, and presenting a variety of hot and cold food items for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The ideal candidate must follow policies regarding sanitation, food handling, safety, confidentiality, personal appearance, and hygiene.
Salary and Benefits
The starting base rate of pay is $15.75 - $20.27 per hour, based on previous experiences and qualifications. Responsibilities
- Prepare, season, and cook meats and vegetables using skill in frying, grilling, and sautéing.
- Portion food on serving plates and add gravies, sauces, and garnishes as needed.
- Receive inventory, move, and lift foodstuffs and supplies, and prepare meals for customers requiring special diets.
- Clean and sanitize workstations and equipment, following all VMRC and regulatory rules and procedures.
- Fully understand and appropriately follow sanitation, food-borne illness, and cross-contamination policies and procedures.
- Demonstrate and maintain a high level of customer-first service.
Requirements
- A high school graduate or GED equivalent with a minimum of 1 year experience cooking in an institutional food service environment.
- Ability to stand for long periods, lift up to 35 pounds, and safely operate small appliances.
- Self-motivated, able to schedule time wisely, and accommodate changes.
- Able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
Working Conditions
This position has access to job-specific resident dietary requirements and does not have access to personnel records of staff. Must be able to work overtime, holidays, and weekends as scheduled.
