Yard Hostler

The Yard Hostler is a critical role within the GEODIS Group, responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient movement of tractor trailers within the yard and surrounding areas. This position requires strong communication and organizational skills, as well as the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.

• Move trailers at customer facilities, prioritizing tasks to meet deadlines and optimize yard operations.
• Shuttle tankers, hoppers, and containers, ensuring timely and safe transportation.
• Communicate with Inbound and Outbound Leads to coordinate trailer moves and optimize yard operations.
• Document and perform trailer moves, maintaining accurate records and reports.
• Transport trailers to keep refrigerated units fueled, ensuring compliance with safety regulations.
• Perform yard checks throughout the day, identifying and addressing any issues or concerns.
• Verify and report damages, maintaining a safe and secure work environment.
• Support Yard Assistant and Mechanic with maintenance duties, ensuring equipment is in good working order.

• High school diploma or GED (General Education Diploma) equivalency.
• Minimum 1 year related experience and/or training.
• CDL preferred.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written or oral instructions.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

This role requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts and varying weather conditions. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and be able to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and talk or hear.
