Role Summary:
The Behavior Support Specialist plays a vital role in assisting therapists to deliver effective therapeutic interventions while ensuring a well-organized and secure environment. This position involves implementing Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) methodologies, including systematic data collection, intervention strategies, and outcome evaluation with children and their families.
Key Responsibilities:
- Acquire a paraprofessional license through the relevant educational authority, with potential waivers for those holding teaching or substitute teaching credentials.
- Engage in mandatory supervision sessions during the initial six months of employment and as deemed necessary by supervisory staff.
- Support therapists, staff, and clients during operational hours.
- Oversee and manage rest periods and after-school activities.
- Complete designated lesson preparation tasks.
- Assist in the collection of daily behavioral data.
- Contribute to the preparation of therapy sessions and lesson plans under the guidance of the Therapy Case Manager.
- Provide assistance to clients with personal care needs as required.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization in assigned areas.
- Report daily activities to the Therapy Case Manager and other departmental leads.
- Participate in all required company orientations, professional development days, and ongoing training sessions.
- Attend monthly staff meetings and departmental gatherings as necessary.
- Travel to client homes for sessions as required.
- Manage a caseload of therapy groups and individual sessions as assigned.
- Document daily treatment notes and data analysis within specified timeframes.
- Implement the established curriculum and therapeutic models of the organization.
- Build and sustain relationships with clients and families, providing educational resources and support as needed.
- Collaborate with the Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) for client supervision as required.
- Work with the scheduling team to fulfill caseload obligations.
- Create visual aids, social narratives, and individualized programs to support therapeutic objectives.
- Assist with additional tasks as necessary.
- Adhere to all organizational policies and procedures.
Qualifications:
- Associate's degree or equivalent college credits (60 credits) required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Preferred: Minimum of one year of experience in a similar role within the organization.
- Completion of a 40-hour training program in autism spectrum disorders and evidence-based behavioral techniques prior to starting.
- Experience working with children or individuals with special needs is essential.
- Preferred: Experience with children diagnosed with autism.
- Active certification from the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB) is preferred.

This role requires the ability to perform essential duties effectively in a dynamic environment with groups of children and individual sessions. Physical demands include:
- Ability to lift a minimum of 35 lbs, including children and therapy equipment.
- Ability to walk or run as necessary to ensure client safety.
- Ability to implement behavior management strategies as trained.
- Ability to utilize hands and arms for therapy-related tasks.
- Ability to operate a keyboard and other devices for documentation purposes.
