Key Responsibilities
As a Substance Abuse Counselor, your primary responsibilities will include:
- Developing and delivering educational content related to substance abuse.
- Facilitating group and individual counseling sessions, as well as didactic presentations.
- Evaluating and recommending instructional materials for the substance abuse program.
- Staying informed about the latest advancements in substance abuse treatment.
- Building collaborative relationships with other professionals in the field.
- Conducting assessments and psychosocial histories for new residents.
- Participating in ongoing training related to substance abuse counseling.
Qualifications
Before applying, please ensure you meet the following minimum qualifications:
- An Associate's degree in a Behavioral Science field such as Psychology, Sociology, or Human Relations.
- Licensure as a Substance Abuse Associate (LSAA) is mandatory.
- Familiarity with the Twelve Step Program is essential.
- Experience working with correctional populations and in substance abuse treatment is preferred.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to engage professionally in counseling settings.
- Organizational skills and demonstrated leadership capabilities.
- Proficiency in using computers and relevant software.
Physical Requirements
This position may require lifting or carrying items up to 20 lbs regularly, with occasional lifting of up to 40 lbs. Candidates should be capable of bending, stooping, walking, and standing for extended periods.
