Position Overview

The OnSite Energy & Power division is seeking a Lead Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Engineer to oversee projects related to distributed energy facilities for institutional and industrial clients, which encompass electric, steam, chilled water, hot water, and cogeneration systems. The Lead I&C Engineer will take charge of all I&C engineering functions for multi-disciplinary projects, whether for new installations or upgrades to existing control systems, while also guiding junior engineers.

Key Responsibilities

The Lead I&C Engineer will be accountable for the following tasks:

  • Conduct I&C assessments, including site evaluations, scope formulation, stakeholder discussions, vendor selection, cost estimation, and report generation.
  • Assist in the creation of Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
  • Support the formulation of Mechanical and Electrical Equipment Specifications.
  • Compile Instrument Lists and Procurement Specifications.
  • Prepare Instrument Data Sheets and Installation Details.
  • Design Instrument Location Plans.
  • Draft Control System (DCS and/or PLC) Specifications and Architecture Diagrams.
  • Generate Control System I/O Lists, Control Narratives, Logic Diagrams, and Graphics Diagrams.
  • Create Control System Network Drawings and I&C Connection/Loop Diagrams.
  • For assigned procurement contracts (e.g., Instrumentation, Control Systems, CEMS/PEMS), develop Approved Vendors Lists and collaborate with procurement to prepare RFQ documentation.
  • Conduct technical bid evaluations and review vendor submissions.
  • Perform software and hardware configurations across various platforms, including Rockwell.
  • Facilitate Factory Acceptance Tests and provide technical support during commissioning at project sites.
  • Conduct quality reviews of project submissions and lead field inspections, installations, measurements, or calculations for both public and private clients.
  • Prepare and present technical reports for clients and industry publications.
  • Ensure adherence to company and site safety protocols.
  • Foster strong relationships with existing clients, customers, and contractors while identifying new business opportunities.
  • Engage in sales and marketing initiatives and pinpoint key pursuits.
  • Lead the preparation of cost proposals and qualification statements to meet financial performance targets.
  • Prepare and present project budgets and cost estimates, while reporting on project performance.
  • Facilitate effective communication with other engineering disciplines.
  • Mentor and train junior engineers.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution is required; a Master's degree is a plus.
  • A minimum of 7 years of relevant experience is required, with the completion of a master's degree potentially substituting for one year of experience.
  • Engineer-In-Training (EIT) Certification or Professional Engineer (PE) License is strongly preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of standard engineering practices and procedures, along with a strong understanding of electrical equipment design in accordance with ANSI and IEEE Standards.
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Experience leading discipline design for large projects and delegating tasks to team members.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills and the ability to work methodically in a quantitative problem-solving environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for conveying technical information.
  • Proficiency in software applications (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Visio, AutoCAD).
  • A valid driver's license is required, along with the ability to meet standards for maintaining the company's vehicle driving privileges.
  • Willingness to travel as needed.
