Position Summary

The UCCS Controller's Office upholds rigorous standards of technical accounting, auditing, and financial reporting to meet the needs of campus customers and external stakeholders. The Lead Financial Analyst will collaborate closely with the CU System Controller and represent the UCCS campus on all accounting matters.

This office is service-oriented, processing transactions, generating and monitoring reports, providing financial information and decision support, and offering training and documentation for the execution of policies and procedures.

The primary objective of this role is to deliver exceptional customer service, high-level accounting, and administrative support to campus accounting staff and personnel.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Timely processing of journal entries and reports.
  • Reviewing and reconciling accounts.
  • Compiling, entering, and verifying data and transactions.

The Lead Financial Analyst will engage with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders, including campus departmental finance and accounting staff, to provide a variety of accounting services while adhering to federal, state, and local regulations.

Essential Functions include:

  • Reviewing, interpreting, and ensuring compliance with federal and state legislation, rules, regulations, and institutional policies.
  • Recording, classifying, and correcting various financial transactions.
  • Creating reports for both internal and external audiences.
  • Preparing year-end financial statement exhibits and footnote schedules.
  • Reconciling assigned general ledger accounts and analyzing data for consistent application of financial policies.
  • Designing and delivering training to campus personnel.
  • Maintaining appropriate records and documentation for processing efficiencies and compliance audits.

The Lead Financial Analyst will also oversee capital asset activities, collaborating with various departments to reconcile, record, track, and report on assets.

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications include a bachelor's degree in Accounting from an accredited institution and a minimum of three years of professional accounting experience. Progressive professional experience may substitute for a degree on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred qualifications include a master's degree in Accounting, Business, or a related field, experience in financial operations within higher education, and proficiency in relevant financial software.
