Position Summary:

We are in search of a Purchasing Estimator to support our transportation initiatives across various regions. The selected candidate will be based in our office, with flexibility for candidates from nearby locations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Examine project documentation and specifications to ascertain the scope and necessary content for estimates.
  • Request pricing from material suppliers and subcontractors tailored to project requirements.
  • Evaluate and standardize quotes, inputting pricing into estimating software.
  • Maintain comprehensive records and documentation for estimating cost models, ensuring accurate historical pricing data from subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Collaborate with estimating teams to ensure all aspects of the bid scope are thoroughly addressed.
  • Identify potential risks and devise strategies to mitigate them.
  • Spot Value Engineering opportunities and other avenues for competitive advantage.
  • Assist in drafting and reviewing contracts and purchase orders for new projects.
  • Work alongside project operations to address issues, uphold construction quality, and adhere to project timelines.
  • Develop strategies to meet project diversity objectives and implement these plans in bid pursuits.
  • Engage in outreach efforts to promote diversity participation and maintain relevant documentation.
  • Establish and nurture strong relationships with vendors and industry partners.
  • Participate in relevant industry events and gatherings.
  • Complete additional tasks as directed by supervisors.
Qualifications:
  • A degree in Civil Engineering, Industrial Management, or a related field is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Previous experience in estimating, engineering, or procurement roles within heavy civil construction projects is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with HCSS Heavy Bid Estimating Software is a plus.
Skills and Competencies:
  • Ability to interpret and navigate engineering documents and construction plans.
  • Knowledge of construction and material specifications and standards is essential.
  • Understanding of construction contracts and terminology is preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills are crucial.
