Job Overview

1. Conducts a range of radiographic examinations for diagnostic purposes as per the directives of healthcare professionals.

  • Delivers radiological services by demonstrating the expertise, skills, and competencies necessary to execute various radiographic examinations using ionizing radiation for diagnostic imaging.
  • Evaluates the patient’s capacity to adhere to the physical demands of the examination to reduce any potential issues during the procedure.
  • Inputs appropriate technical settings into the x-ray equipment to optimize image quality in accordance with established protocols.
  • Executes a variety of imaging procedures, including X-rays, CT scans, Mammography, Ultrasounds, Pulmonary Function Tests (PFT), bone density assessments, Electrocardiograms (EKG), and stress tests.
  • Adheres to standardized protocols for the administration of contrast agents.
  • Observes protocols for diabetic patients on glucophage receiving contrast agents.
  • Operates portable x-ray equipment in emergency settings and at the bedside of patients.

2. Prepares the examination room and equipment for radiological procedures.

  • Sanitizes all equipment following each patient interaction.
  • Implements infection control measures.
  • Maintains and replenishes necessary supplies.
  • Follows established protocols in line with the specific procedures being performed.
  • Ensures all equipment is well-maintained and functioning optimally.
  • Reports and addresses any equipment malfunctions.

3. Assists in preparing patients for their examinations.

  • Transports patients to and from the Radiology department.
  • Accurately identifies patients.
  • Confirms the procedure to be performed with the patient and secures necessary consent.
  • Validates patient preparation and medical history pertinent to the ordered examination.
  • Effectively explains the procedures to patients.
  • Provides first aid assistance as required.
  • Proactively addresses the needs of patients and their families.

4. Adheres to established radiation safety guidelines to safeguard patients and staff, ensuring a safe environment.

  • Minimizes the need for retakes by selecting appropriate technical factors in the x-ray equipment based on the examination protocol and patient condition.
  • Employs radiation exposure reduction techniques, such as proper collimation and lead shielding, to limit radiation exposure.
  • Utilizes personal radiation monitoring devices while on duty.
  • Ensures that visitors and staff are provided with lead shielding or maintained at a safe distance from radiation sources.

5. Completes patient documentation and necessary administrative tasks.

  • Ensures timely receipt of patient reports for healthcare providers and accurately documents patient charges using the EHR system.
  • Contributes to the maintenance of departmental policies, procedures, and product information.
  • Provides patient demographics and reports to the hospital billing system.
  • Ensures accurate filing of patient exams to guarantee correct billing.
  • Documents ongoing assessments of patient status related to CT scans.

6. Communicates effectively with the healthcare team.

  • Collaborates and communicates efficiently with other healthcare team members regarding patient conditions, nursing care plans, patient satisfaction needs, and recommendations for achieving identified outcomes.
  • Recognizes and addresses abnormal symptoms or changes in patient conditions, prioritizing actions and appropriately reporting changes to medical providers.
