Job Summary

As a Horticultural Specialist at Emerge, you will oversee the growth and maintenance of our horticultural products and structures. This role requires a strong understanding of crop development, quality control, and safety protocols. You will work closely with our team to ensure a safe and engaging environment for adults with developmental disabilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create accurate production schedules for each growing season.
  • Order plant material, hardwoods, and necessary supplies.
  • Prepare growing spaces and time plants for optimal sales.
  • Monitor growing conditions and cultivation procedures to ensure quality control standards.
  • Inspect crops regularly to identify conditions such as pests, diseases, and nutrient deficiencies.
  • Apply fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides as needed.
  • Maintain records of growing techniques and production.
  • Assist in training new employees and customers in growing techniques.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest growing techniques and technologies.

Requirements

  • 2-4 year degree in Horticulture or related field and 3-5 years of related work experience.
  • Knowledge of fertilizer injectors and greenhouse control systems.
  • Ability to identify a wide variety of annuals and perennials and their cultural requirements.
  • Ability to work in high humidity and varying temperatures.
  • Ability to lift 50lbs safely.

Working Relationships

Report to Director of Supported Employment.

Work closely with Emerge customers, peers, and other employees and departments in the company.
