The Physical Therapist is responsible for organizing and delivering medically prescribed Physical Therapy aimed at alleviating pain, restoring functionality, and evaluating as well as preventing disabilities resulting from illness, injury, or loss of a body part.
This role is pivotal in assisting patients to achieve optimal performance and reintegrate into society while adapting to their individual capabilities.
Key Responsibilities- Designs tailored therapy programs for each patient utilizing physical modalities such as exercise, massage, manual therapy, heat, water, light, and electricity as indicated by the referring physician.
- Conducts diagnostic and prognostic assessments for muscles, nerves, joints, and overall functional abilities.
- Guides patients through both active and passive exercises, muscle reeducation, and functional training using various equipment including machines and weights.
- Utilizes therapeutic equipment such as low and high volt generators, diathermy, and ultrasound machines; administers whirlpool treatments and contrast baths, and applies moist heat packs.
- Provides care for patients with burns and open wounds as directed by the attending physician.
- Instructs patients on the proper use and care of mobility aids such as wheelchairs, walkers, crutches, braces, canes, and prosthetic devices.
- Offers guidance in postural control and therapeutic exercises for patients to continue independently.
- Conducts initial evaluations, re-evaluations, and meticulously documents patient progress for review by the rehabilitation team.
- May oversee the activities of assistants, aides, and volunteers.
- May engage in training medical and nursing students, staff, and colleagues in physical therapy methodologies and objectives.
- ACLS certification is required for 4 North, Stroke and Trauma, ICU, and ER.
- BLS certification is sufficient for MedSurg/Ortho and 4 South postings.
- All traveling staff may be required to float to different units as necessary.
- Floating will only occur within the scope of their expertise.
- The facility is licensed for over 400 beds.
- A wide range of clinical services is offered to cater to each patient's unique needs.
- Recognized as the Lead Level 3 Trauma Center in the region.
- Features a nationally-acclaimed Intensive Care Unit.
- Provides critical care for newborns starting from 28 weeks gestation.
- Conducts advanced diagnostic procedures in the radiology department.
- Offers comprehensive testing and surgical options for cardiology patients, among other services.
