Work Schedule: 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM, weekdays
Contract Duration: 13 weeks
Position Summary:
The ideal candidate will possess certifications from the American Board of Radiology (ABR) in Therapeutic Medical Physics or equivalent credentials in Radiation Therapy Physics. Additional certification in nuclear medicine is preferred.
Educational Requirements: A Master's degree, Doctorate, or PhD in physics, medical physics, biophysics, radiological physics, medical health physics, or related fields from an accredited institution is required. Candidates should be pursuing or have achieved certification in relevant subfields of medical physics, adhering to the continuing education standards set by recognized national certifying bodies, including:
- The American Board of Radiology
- The American Board of Medical Physics
- The Canadian College of Physicists in Medicine
Experience: A minimum of five years of clinical experience as a medical physicist or radiation physicist in a hospital setting is preferred.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems, specifically Epic, and experience with Aria, Eclipse, and Truebeam is essential.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the medical physics activities in collaboration with the oncology medical physics department, focusing on Imaging Services.
- Conduct acceptance testing, equipment performance evaluations, and quality control for imaging equipment across the organization.
- Assist with imaging equipment accreditation processes as needed.
- Participate in the selection and evaluation of new imaging technologies.
- Provide calculations for shielding design in diagnostic x-ray, CT, and nuclear medicine facilities, along with on-site evaluations.
- Serve as the Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) and manage radioactive material licenses.
- Lead the Radiation Safety Program and chair the Radiation Safety Committees.
- Engage in technology assessments and evaluations for imaging and radiation safety advancements.
- Facilitate system-wide education initiatives regarding radiation safety.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory standards related to quality control, medical physics testing, and radiation safety.
- Contribute to compliance efforts with Joint Commission standards.
- Provide consulting services in medical physics and radiation safety to regional healthcare providers as authorized.
- Act as a resource for staff and patients regarding medical physics inquiries.
Additional Skills: Comprehensive knowledge and hands-on experience in the operation, calibration, and maintenance of diagnostic imaging equipment, including X-ray, CT, and fluoroscopy.
Other duties may be assigned as necessary.
