Job Summary

Outagamie County, WI is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Deputy Coroner to join our team. As a Deputy Coroner, you will play a critical role in investigating deaths of unusual or violent nature, conducting autopsies, and providing support to families and law enforcement agencies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Death Scene Investigation: Respond to death scenes, make observations, question witnesses, and examine evidence to determine the cause of death.
  • Autopsy and Laboratory Analysis: Collect samples, specimens, and body fluids for laboratory analysis, and arrange for pathological or medicolegal examinations as assigned by the Coroner.
  • Family Notification and Support: Notify families of the deceased in a professional manner, provide post-mortem assistance, and complete necessary paperwork.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Complete accurate and complete records, prepare clear and comprehensive reports, and testify in court as needed.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Work effectively with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies, District Attorney's office, medical and hospital staff, funeral directors, and the general public.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience: Graduate from high school or GED, supplemented with clerical training and two years accredited post-high school education, and at least two years relevant healthcare/medical experience.
  • Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of Wisconsin State Statutes and laws related to the Coroner's Office, anatomy and physiology of the human body, and ability to maintain confidentiality, accuracy, and attention to detail.
