Core Responsibilities

  • Maintain consistent and reliable attendance.
  • Work assigned shifts and be flexible with hours, including nights and weekends, based on business requirements.
  • Promote a safe and efficient work environment by adhering to and enforcing company policies and procedures.
  • Take initiative to support sales efforts: Acknowledge the customer, engage with them and their pets, recommend products or services, and create memorable experiences.
  • Drive revenue and profitability by boosting sales, modeling a selling culture, executing merchandising strategies, managing expenses, overseeing profit/loss, and safeguarding company assets.
  • Collaborate with mall management to engage in marketing initiatives, including promotional materials and signage.
  • Build and maintain a strong store team through effective hiring, retention strategies, scheduling, payroll management, training, and performance evaluations.
  • Ensure accurate daily reconciliation of cash drawers and vault.
  • Lead the implementation of Petsense standards through store presentation, inventory management, pricing strategies, loss prevention, and compliance with procedural audits.
  • Perform a variety of duties throughout the day, including handling customer complaints, executing opening and closing procedures, making bank deposits, operating the cash register, and supervising cash handling processes.

Required Qualifications

Experience: A minimum of two years in retail leadership is required. Experience in profit/loss management, scheduling, shrink control, payroll management, staffing, hiring, supervising, and counseling is preferred. Candidates must be at least 18 years old and possess a valid driver's license.

Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Regardless of educational background, candidates must be able to read, write, and perform basic arithmetic accurately.

  • Proficiency in reading, writing, and arithmetic.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to resolve conflicts ethically.

Working Environment

  • Generally favorable working conditions, primarily indoors with moderate noise levels.
  • Shifts may vary by store, typically lasting no less than 4 hours and potentially exceeding 8 hours.
  • Commitment to promoting a safe and productive environment for team members and customers, adhering to company safety protocols.
  • Indoor and outdoor surfaces are typically hard (e.g., concrete, asphalt), with adequate lighting and temperature control.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to move and handle merchandise weighing up to 50 pounds throughout the store.
  • Capability to occasionally lift or reach for items overhead.
  • Frequent standing, kneeling, twisting, crouching, bending, and climbing ladders is required.
  • Ability to navigate the store for an entire shift.
  • Must be able to access all areas of the store, including sales floor, stock area, and register area.
  • Proficiency in operating necessary store equipment (e.g., dolly, hand truck, computer, cash register).
  • Ability to read, write, and count accurately for documentation purposes.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively interact with team members and customers.
  • Ability to process transactions through the point-of-sale system.
  • Must complete required training and certification for specific tasks.
  • Ability to travel as needed to support district operations.
  • Must possess the ability to drive or operate a vehicle for business purposes.
  • This position requires a non-sedentary work style.
  • Essential for team members to have the stamina and capability to move quickly and safely throughout the store and outdoor areas.
  • Constant operation of store equipment such as computers and cash registers is necessary.
